Abstract :
In this study ethyl lactate synthesis was performed in a membrane reactor at 303, 313, 323 K temperatures and 1:1, 3:1, 6:1 alcohol:lactic acid initial feed molar ratios. Effects of temperature and initial feed molar ratio on acid conversion and separation performance were investigated. Membranes were characterized by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM). In order to obtain the performance of membrane reactor system, reactions were also carried out in a batch reactor. While 0.26 acid conversion was obtained in batch reactor at equal molar ratio and 323 K, 0,62 conversion was achieved in membrane reactor at the same conditions.
