Abstract :
Nesîmî, one of the important figures in the 16th century, is known in Turkish Literature as a radical supporter of hurufism and also because of legendary rumors about his tragic death. His tragic death, especially, attracted the attention of Alawi-Bektashi community and since that time Nesimi has been regarded as one of the seven divine poets of Alawi belief. Information about the true identity of the poet who was one of the main representatives of Hurufism movement that interests in the Turkish religion history as well as Turkish literature history, is very unsufficient. Even, his pennames are not known clearly. This important deficiency hinders the identification of Nesîmî’s all poems. There are some clues that the poet used different pennames according to historical and contemporary sources. In this paper, the information has been compiled, and it has focused on which pennames that the poet could be used by means of these results. Nesîmî, Hüseynî, Seyyid, Seyyid Nesîmî, Hâşîmî, Şirâzî, Na’îmî, İmad pennames in different sources have been evaluated and also it has not been ignored that he may have never used a penname. In this way, all pennames Nesîmî is said to have used have been collected. It is concluded that Hüseynî, of these alternatives, may have been used by the poet as a second penname; but for the others, sufficient evidence could not be found. Thus, some information and new questions have been added to the biography of the poet.
