Abstract
One way of producing and operating dwellings that provide the necessary thermal comfort conditions while consuming minimum energy is the building envelope design. Insulation ensures energy saving by reducing heat gains and losses, and enables us to protect the environment, ensure thermal comfort and noise control. The study aims at identifying the rate of change in building envelope, heating energy and life cycle costs that occurs after altering the features of the building envelope; which affects building initial investment and heating energy costs. For this purpose, by changing the body and insulation materials used on external components of the building envelope, such as roof and walls; building envelope, heating energy and life cycle costs will be determined. The increase in the building envelope cost and saving on annual heating energy costs that is brought by the insulation material used on wall and/or roof to the non-insulated building will be assessed as well as the changes building envelope, heating energy and life cycle costs, resulting from the increase in the thickness of insulation material used on roof and walls.
