An Investigation of the Relationships Among Self Perceptions, Gestalt Contact Styles and AnxietyLevels of the University Students

Gestalt Theory mainly focuses on the concept of contact. In regards to Gestalt Theory, the individuals who live constantly frustration in their contact styles have emotional difficulties. One of the emotional problems is anxiety. According to the Gestalt Theory anxiety is caused by contact styles used in an unhealthy way. The importance of the concept of self-perception can be seen when the studies carried out about anxiety are examined. The purpose of the research is to investigate therelationships between the university students’ anxiety levels and their self perceptions and contact styles. For this reason, Gestalt Contact Styles Scale-Revised Form, Social Comparison Scale and Beck Anxiety Inventory applied to 290 university students who attend to Aksaray University. Pearson Moments Multiplier Correlation Coefficient was used to analyze the relationships among the variables. As a result, the significant relationships were found among self-perceptions, Gestalt contact styles and anxiety levels of the university students.
