Abstract :
Main objective of this study is to examine expression level of valves possessed by retired policemen of their self-esteem. Examining whether education level, the rank, the time in service and values possessed by retired policemen make a difference in terms of self-esteem is another objective of this study. This study has been made in accordance with relational scanning model. Research group consists of 318 retired policemen residing in Konya. Values list developed by Scwartz (1992) has been utilized in the making of this study. Data analysis has been made by using SPSS 15 for windows (2006). A relationship between self-esteem scale scores of retired policemen and success, self-control, universality charity, traditionalism, security and their sub dimensions of values scale has not been found. On the other hand there is a relationship (in terms of) power, hedonism, stimulation and compliance. Sub dimensions of values scale have a significant relationship with self-esteem scores of retired policemen. Value perception of retired policemen over selfesteem scale prioritizes relatively as sub dimensions of values scale, self-control, universality and hedonism. It has been seen that sub dimensions of self-control, universality and hedonism are significant explanatory for self-esteem of retired policemen. It has been found that other sub dimensions of value scale don’t have significant influence on self-esteem of retired policemen. It has been found that education variable differentiates significantly among other sub dimensions of value scale such as power, success, hedonism, self-control, stimulation, universality, charity, traditionalism, compliance and security in terms score averages.
