Abstract :
This study was done to determine the capacity of the primary 5th grade students’ usage of metaphors in the speaking and writing expression. The document analysis and structured observation technique of the qualitative research approach were used in this research. To determine the students’ capacity of using metaphors in the speaking process, observation with structured observation form was done directly in the 62 lesson hours. To determine the students’ capacity of using metaphors in the writing process “Turkish Lesson Student Workbook” that was used within Turkish Lesson, “Students’ Compositions”, and “Students’ Turkish Notebooks” were taken in to account and analysed. The data sets that were taken from observation forms and document analyse forms that were used to determine the students’ capacity of using metaphor in the Turkish Lesson’s speaking and writing process were examined and digitized and every students’ metaphors using frequency during the study were calculated. According to the research findings; the 5th grade students use metaphors in the Turkish Lesson’s speaking and writing process. The numbers of metaphors that the students use increase when the chance of speaking and writing is more given.
