Analysis of the Relation between Values and Personality Traits Held by Candidate Teachers

Abstract
The purpose of the study is to investigate the relation between personality traits and values held by candidate teachers. Model used for the research is relational survey model which is a subtype of general survey model. Research workgroup is 1245 candidate teachers, studying at S.U. Ahmet Kelesoglu Faculty of Education. The data acquisition tools used in the research are; Schwartz’s Value Inventory, which is developed by Schwartz in 1992 and Adjective Based Personality Scale. In regression analysis it is confirmed that; From the sub-dimensions of Adjective Based Personality Scale; neuroticism is meaningfully described by the sub-dimensions of values scale, power, achievement, hedonism, self-direction, benevolence and stimulation; extraversion is meaningfully described by the sub-dimensions of values scale, hedonism, stimulation, traditionalism and conformity, openness is meaningfully described by the sub-dimensions of values scale, hedonism, stimulation, self direction, universalism and traditionalism; agreeableness is meaningfully described by the sub-dimensions of values scale, power, selfdirection, benevolence and traditionalism; consciousness is meaningfully described by the sub-dimensions of values scale, achievement and conformity.
