Abstract :
In present study the aim is to determine the effect of the level of school academic optimism on teacher organizational commitment. This study was done with screening model and the study group consists of 559 participants; 192 female and 367 male teachers. In this research another objective is to designate the relationship between academic optimism level of school and organizational commitment level of teachers with respect to variables such as gender, years of experience, type of school, number of teachers employed in the school, number of students. In data collection, “Scale on the Academic Optimism of Schools” and “Organizational Commitment Scale for Teachers” have been utilized. The findings show that female teachers are on a higher level in common competence subdimension whereas male teachers are on a higher level in confidence subdimension; as years of experience increases so do academic optimism and organizational commitment levels; with respect to type of school, teachers working in Science and Anatolian High Schools have higher levels of academic optimism and organizational commitment; in schools with fewer numbers of teachers, common competence level is high and in schools with fewer numbers of students, organizational commitment level is higher. It was found that there is medium level relationship between academic optimism and commitment and optimism may explain commitment level.
