    Prospective Teachers’ Opinions on Their Competencies in Learning Teaching Process

  • Abstract
    The purpose of this study was to identify prospective teachers’ opinions on their competencies in learning teaching process and whether their opinions differed as regards gender. The sample of the research, in which mixed method was used, was composed of 382 fourth grade prospective teachers being educated at Education Faculty at Mersin University. While descriptive statistics were used to determine prospective teachers’ opinions on their competencies in learning teaching process, t-test for independent samples was done in order to determine whether prospective teachers’ opinions differed as regards gender. Content analysis was used to determine the reasons of prospective teachers’ opinions on their competencies in learning teaching process. It was concluded that prospective teachers considered themselves competent in learning teaching process; gender didn’t lead change in prospective teachers’ opinions. It was found that the reasons why prospective teachers considered themselves competent were explained as high self-efficacy belief, being experienced etc.; the reasons why prospective teachers considered themselves incompetent were explained as theoretically given courses, being inexperienced, etc.
