Abstract :
One of the most basic purposes of Turkish Language teaching is to improve the writing skills of students. In this scope, writing is one of the main issues focused on, being studied from primary school first class until high-school final class. During formal training, students perform various writing studies on many topics. This research, aiming to improve the story-writing skills of primary school 7th grade students by way of various writing activities, was carried out at Ankara Elmadağ Kurtuluş Primary School and Keçiören Orhan Gazi Primary School. 109 seventh grade students from these schools participated in the study. Using the preliminary test - final test control group experimental method, students in the experiment group performed story-writing activities for four weeks, for a total of thirty hours in this research. Control group students carried out the lessons with conventional procedures. It was seen that experiment group students had significantly higher final test points than their preliminary test points, except for three items (coherence, spelling and punctuation). It was also seen that experiment group students had significantly higher final test points than the final test points of control group students, except for three items (paragraph and line breaks, spelling and punctuation). When story-writing skills of students were compared in terms of total points; experiment group students’ final test total point averages were found to be significantly higher than control group students’ final test total point averages. This result shows that the students, who had the training, wrote more accomplished stories that those who did not get the training.
