Determining the Usability Problems of Interactive LCD Panel Whiteboards Used in the FATİH Project

The purpose of this study is to determine the usability problems of interactive LCD panel whiteboards used within the scope of FATİH Project in the schools which are at a level of secondary schools from the perspective of teachers. Data were collected and analyzed from 15 teachers working in secondary schools in the center of Erzurum and 1 information technology (IT) formator teacher by doing interview and data obtained were interpreted on the basis of effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction which are the main components of the usability. Teachers expressed the usability problems in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction they faced in using interactive whiteboard. Usability problems related with hardware are inability to use ports at the same time, the wrong location of the power cable and having problems in HDD connection. Usability problems related with software are inability of StarBoard software to meet teachers’s expectations. Usability problems resulting from physical environment are frequently impairment of the calibration settings of the screen because of the sunshine and dust and having difficulty in seeing the screen by students. Based on the usability problems determined at the end of the study, the suggestions have been proposed.
