Abstract :
In this study, attitudes of students who study at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences towards teaching profession have been analyzed according to various variables. Moreover, it has been questioned in the study if the attitude towards teaching profession is a significant predictor of choosing teaching as a profession. This study has been carried out with a group of sample that is composed of 410 undergraduate students studying at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Çankırı Karatekin University during 2013-2014 educational years. The data for the study have been collected through ‘Teaching Profession Attitude Scale (TPAS)’. The collected data have been analyzed by means of arithmetic mean, standard deviation, percentage value, multiple analysis of variance (MANOVA) and logistic regression. It has been found out through this study that students of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences have a positive attitude towards teaching profession. The attitudes of students to teaching profession are not significantly different according to the variables of gender, class level and educational background while students’ attitudes towards teaching are significantly different according to the variable of department. Also, it has been found out through this study that students’ attitudes to teaching profession are not a significant predictor of students’ level of choosing teaching as a profession.
