Abstract :
Today, as sources of information increase rapidly, reading has become a necessity to access information. In this regard, it is of great importance to teach individuals the habit of being a good reader starting from elementary school. Creative reading is an approach to reading that requires individuals to actively participate in the reading process and use their skills of creativity, imagination and critical thinking in the reading process. This study aims to develop a scale for assessing the creative reading process. The sample of the study consisted of 250 4^th graders at various elementary schools in the city centre and districts of Denizli province. To determine the construct validity of the scale, factor analysis was performed on the data, and three dimensions were identified. The items with an factor loading value lower than 0,40 were excluded. The factor loading values of the items in the first dimension ranged between 0,95 and 0,53, those in the second dimension between 0,89 and 0,70, and those in the third dimension between 0,76 and 0,43. As a result of the analyses, the Creative Reading Process Assessment Scale (CRPAS) consisting of 28 items and three dimensions were developed. After the factor analysis, the Cronbach s Alpha reliability coefficient was found to be 0,86. In the reliability analysis conducted according to the split-half model, the scale was divided into two groups, the Alpha value of the first group was 0.81 and that of the second group was 0.86. Based on these results, it can be argued that the scale is reliable.
