Abstract :
The objective of the study is to display the perspectives of prospective teachers about the Farabi Exchange Program in which the prospective teachers already participated. In this research ‘phenemenology’ which is one of the qualitative research methods was adopted. The experiment group of the study consists of prospective teachers studying within the scope of Farabi Exchange Program in Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University during the 2013-2014 education period. Criterion sampling was adopted as one of the purposeful sampling variations in the research. The sample group of the study includes prospective teachers (6 female, 6 male teachers) studying in different departments and branches of Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University during 2013-2014 education period. In the research, a semistructured and non-diverting interview technique was adopted as a data collection tool. Interview questions were analyzed by the content analysis technique. The analysis of interview questions were coded separately by the two different researchers, then the themes were formed with the help of these codes. The similar data in the content analysis were gathered in terms of certain themes and concepts by creating and editing specific codes. As a result, prospective teachers were found having different reasons for participating in Farabi Exchange Program. The leading reasons that motivate the prospective teachers for Farabi Exchange Program were scholarship opportunities, their wishes about getting advantages of facilities of different universities and not being accustomed to the city where they get education. They were also found that by choosing the university where they would get education within the scope of Farabi Exchange Program, they mostly considered about the life and education standarts and quality. Prospective teachers highlighted that Farabi Exchange Program is advantageous for social and individual development. Additionally, it was observed that prospective teachers mentioned different problems they experienced during their period of Farabi Exchange Program.
