Abstract :

Railway stations are among the most important structures of railway architecture. Railway stations paved the way for a new building type while the materials and building techniques provided the development of a new architecture. Various service buildings were built apart from railway stations and passenger buildings in these areas. Railway stations are different from other station buildings in terms of aesthetics concerns. Even though the architecture of service buildings are simpler and more modest that railway stations–passenger buildings, these buildings which have functionality are in a harmony with each other and railway stations in terms of building technique. The architecture of station buildings on different railway lines is different as railways which were built in Turkey in the Ottoman Empire period were built by foreign companies. On the other hand, similar projects were applied on most of the railway buildings on the same railway lines except little changes.
