Analysing the Relation between Reader-Friendly Texts Reading Comprehension Competence
Abstract :
There is a strong relationship between text and reader according to the text-based reading model. Accordingly, the text affects the reader while the reader affects the meaning of the text. Reader-friendly texts are considered as the texts containing some linguistic features providing the reader to comprehend the text more easily. In this study, analyzed according to Reader Friendly Text Assessment Rubric and found to be reader-friendly, the texts roles on the reading comprehension competence are searched in terms of the levels at Barrett taxonomy. According to the statistical results, the readability level of the reader-friendly texts is found higher at literal comprehension, inferential comprehension, assesment and appreciation levels identified in the taxonomy but lower at reorganization in comparison to the texts that are not reader-friendly.
