NURETTIN TOPCU AND THE PERSPECTIVE OF ANATOLIAN CIVILIZATION AS A EFFORT TO CREATE A NATIONALISTIC SPACE IN CIVILIZATION
Abstract :
Nurettin Topcu who is one of the significant milestones of the Turkish intellectual life with his works in a wide range from history to sociology, ethics, religion to philosophy and literature attributes great importance to Anatolia which is the only place he sees as the (re)implementation of the values that he fights for. It has been observed that Topcu who integrates the Anatolian centered nationalism understanding with the Islamic religious values at the same time with nationalist paradigm, makes crucial evaluation on the Western civilization and the civilization that he longs for. In the article, we analyze the Nurettin Topcu’s Anatolian centered civilization approach which can be seen as an enthusiasm to create a nationalistic space in civilization after noticing the important role of the “civilization” as a concept and phenomenon that (must) take place in the human history by following up the approaches from various scientists and intellectuals like Arnold Toynbee, Fernand Braudel, Samuel P.Huntington, and İbn Haldun.
