Abstract :
Philosophical, economic, social and political developments in the West led to a fast changing and transformation process in the Ottoman State and its successor Turkish Republic. Centre – periphery approach has always been a useful political means to systematically explain political and social change. Although this approach sometimes has been impotent to explain political and social change and transformation, yet it has been an important analysing means of Turkish politics. Developments in international system and in Turkey have caused a multidimensional change in centre-periphery relations. While this changing process has moved the position of periphery into center, the center which lost the power to periphery has started to question its position. This study analyses the result and the cause of political and social change in a democratic approach and in a historical perspective.
