Abstract :

Distribution management is among one of the most discussed topics within supply chain management literature because of its importance with regard to supply chain performance and customer satisfaction. However, intense competitive conditions force business enterprises to reveal and examine other factors affecting supply chain performance. In this respect, demand management emerges as a factor affecting success in building good customer relations. In addition, supply base management have received the attention of researchers as a popular approach in supplier relations. As a result of these trends, studying these topics and evaluating the effects of these factors on supply chain performance is considered to be beneficial. In this paper, primarily a literature-based evaluation is carried out regarding demand management, distribution management and supply base management. Then, the results of an empirical study, aimed to reveal the effects of these three decision areas on supply chain performance is presented. As a result of the analysis of the data collected from 42 high volume manufacturing firms in Ankara, three main conclusions have been derived: (1) demand management, distribution management and supply base management have positive effects on supply chain performance; (2) the effects of demand management and distribution management on supply chain performance are very close to each other; (3) supply base management has a stronger effect on supply chain performance than demand and distribution management.
