Abstract :
This study investigates the importance of product diversification in exports for Turkish Economy. The relationship between export diversification and economic growth has been elaborated using correlation coefficients, Granger causality tests, regression analyses and Johansen co-integration test. The results of correlation analyses show that both the manufacturing industry weighted-structure of export and its commodity diversity have positive impact on the economic growth performance of Turkey. Granger causality tests have also concluded similar findings. However, regression analyses have produced statistically insignificant coefficients between export diversification and economic growth in the short-run. When the data is further analyzed through Johansen co-integration test, statistically significant relationships between economic growth and export diversification have been detected in the long-run. Consequently, these findings emphasize that the manufacturing industry weighted-structure of exports and high product diversification in exports are important on the long-run economic growth of Turkey.
