Abstract :
Organizational adaptation to the environment requires appropriate managerial responses to both the stable and complex and changing aspects of the environment. Because both managerial skills and competencies are needed for effective management, it is important to differentiate competencies from skills. Managerial skills are required to meet routine demands of managerial jobs whereas competencies are required to meet non-routine, non-programmable job demands. The most significant elements of managerial job have to do with non-routine tasks that demand utilization of competencies. The possession of the competencies that are needed for managerial jobs has been conceptualized as managerial resourcefulness (Kanungo and Misra, 1992). Managerial resourcefulness is a set of affective, intellectual and action-oriented generic competencies that enables adaptive responses to the demands of the managerial jobs. Competencies are basic, critical components of a successful manager’s repertoire. The aim of this study was to attract attentions on the conceptual framework of managerial resourcefulness and its importance for organizations.
