The Effects of Financial Liberalization on Savings and Investment: The Case of Turkey

Abstract
This study examines the effects of financial liberalization practices began in 1980s on savings and investment for the period of 1980-2010. Results of the analysis showed that, changes in private capital flows and net reserves cause changes in gross savings and also changes in gross savings cause changes in net financial flows. On the other hand, it is found that, changes in foreign direct investment cause changes in net national income; also changes in private capital flows and foreign direct investment interact each other and finally changes in net reserves cause foreign direct investment. These findings show that savings and therefore investments could not be utilized effectively unless financial liberalization practices are managed in a planned way.
