Abstract :
Emotional intelligence is a different intelligence concept that has been discussed by scholars for three decades. It has been discussed not only in the area of education, business, and political science but also in the leadership field. In the related literature, there are many scientific studies regarding the positive effects of emotional intelligence on productivity, job satisfaction, and professional success. Like in other sectors, emotional intelligence is one of the most influential elements in shaping organizational success in policing as well. However, few research studies have been conducted investigating the relationship between emotional intelligence and police leadership. This study measured 113 police leaders’ level of emotional intelligence and score of leadership behaviors, and also investigated the relationship between emotional intelligence and police leadership. Collected data were analyzed on SPSS 17.0 using independent sample t-test, Pearson Product Moment correlation and Multiple Regression. The findings showed that there is a positive, strong and statistically significant relationship between emotional intelligence and police leadership.
