Abstract
This study, in the case of Belgium in private, examines EU’s “Regional Policy” as a policy for promoting cohesion both for member states and candidates and firstly the term regional policy is defined and its role within the EU-integration process examined. After stating regional policy’s objectives and instruments, Belgium’s regional structure is examined. Cultural and political structures of each state present a unique case influencing the application and results of EU policies. Belgium’s political, administrative, regional structure and its history influence application of the EU regional policy and its success. In this respect, Belgium’s distinctive case is analyzed and the application of EU regional policy in both the Flemish and Walloon regions is examined.
