THE EFFECT OF TECHNOLOGY INTENSITY PRODUCT EXPORT ON ECONOMIC GROWTH: THE CASE OF TURKEY (1996:Q1-2015:Q3)
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of technology intensity product export on economic growth with time series analysis for Turkey. For this purpose, the period of the study covered between 1996 Q1 and 2015 Q3. Technology intensity of manufacturing sectors is grouped under three sub-groups according to Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Community, Revision 2: (i) low technology, (ii) medium technology and (iii) high technology products. In this study, relation between variables were analysed helping with Engle-Granger(1987) co-integration test and Granger causality analysis. According to the findings obtained from co-integration testing results, low and medium technology intensive products have significant and positive effects on Turkey s economic growth. On the other hand, according to Granger causality results, there are unidirectional causal relationships from exports of medium and high technology intensive products to economic growth.
