THE EFFECTS OF COOPERATIVE LEARNING ON 8TH GRADE PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS’ PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS
Abstract :
The study investigated the effects of cooperative learning on students’ problem solving skills. Seventy-four grade 8 students participated in the study. Cooperative learning method was used in this study so as to ensure students’ problem solving skills. The students selected as control and experiment group have done the activities prepared by the researcher and studies have been applied. The units of “Genetic” and “reproduction and development of organisms” have been taught with lesson plan prepared by the researcher by using traditional method to the students of control group, on the other hand, the same units have been taught by the cooperative learning method prepared by the researcher to experiment group. Inventory of problem-solving skills have been applied to both groups pretest and posttest. The results show that the experimental groups students’ problem solving skills was increased. For group in expected level and a remarkable difference has occurred compared to control group. Experiment group has improved its problem-solving skills as required in terms of problem-solving skills, on the other hand, no change has been seen in control group.
