Title Of Article :
The Validity and Reliability of Turkish Version of Defensive Pessimism Scale-Short5
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to adapt the Short Form of Defensive Pessimism Scale (SK-5), created by Norem, Butler and Prayson (2015), to the Turkish culture and to investigate the psychometric properities of the Turkish version of the measurement tool. 677 students from high school and university participated in the study. As a result of the confirmatory factor analysis, it was found that the single factor structure of the scale had a good fit. The factor loadings of the items in the scale vary between .74 and .84. The internal consistency coefficient was .89 and the test-retest correlation was .82. The criterion-related validity of the SK-5 was examined by investigating the relationship between the Defensive Pessimism Scale, Life Orientation Test and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. The positive correlation of the SK-5 with the Defensive Pessimism Scale and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and negative correlations of SK-5 with Life Orientation Test was accepted as evidence for criterion-related validity. The results of the analysis reveal that the Defensive Pessimism Scale-Short5 (SK-5) is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used in Turkish culture.
