FACTORS THAT EFFECT SOSIAL SUPPORT OF NURSES WHO WORK IN MENTAL HEALTH HOSPITAL

Abstract :
Aim: One of the most effective way to protect stress is having social support in all of the areas of life. Social support is an interpersonal interaction statue tha has instrumental, informational and emotional effect. Social support provide interporsanal intimacy and psychological support. This study planned as descriptive for to determine social support level of nurses who work in mental health hospital. Material and Method: Study was done between 22 December 2008- 9 January 2009 in Mental Health and Diseases Hospital in Manisa. We didn’t go to sample choosen Among nurses (173) who working in this hospital between tis date, nurses (107) who want to participate study and who were voluntary constitute the sample of study. While collecting data, sociodemgraphic knowledge form, social support perceived from family and social support perceived from friends scale were used. Analiyze of data were done in SPSS for Windows version 10.0 programme by using frequency, mean, student t test, Mann Whitney U test, Kruskall Wallis an done way ANOVA test. Findings: %57.9 of nurses in 22-32 age group, %72.9 married, %43.0 of them being working in mental health hospital between 1-9 years, %60.7 of them be satisfied from their job, %73.8 took mental health education, %10.3 took orientation education, % 81.3 were working as clinic nurse. When looked at their problem which they faced in clinic, it is found that %69.2 having problem with physical environment, %43.0 with interpersonal communication, %10.3 with occupational knowledge, %12.1 with treatment condution, %27.1 with administration style. Also it is detected that when nurses faced with a occupational problem, %34.6 share with his/her partner, %31.8 with relatives or friends, %79.4 with colleagues, %39.3 with administir, %15.0 with doctor. İn this study social support perceived from friends scale point mean of nurses found as 37.61± 7.10 social support perceived from family scale point mean found as 34.26± 6.69. Conclusions: At the end of the study, it is determided that; social support of nurses perceived from friends was more than social support perceived from family and social support level of nurses weren’t show significantly differentices according to their sociodemographic and occupational charactheristics.
