Abstract
Today, cancer has become a versatile problem whose diagnosis and treatment should be handled multidisciplinary. Cancer is a chronic phenomenon covering a lot of psychological and psychosocial problems in addition to being medicalphysical illness. Cancer patients develop variable and different emotional, psychological and behavioral reactions in the diagnosis, treatment, relapse and palliative periods. Therefore integrated treatment and care of cancer patients should include medical, psychiatric and psychosocial aspects. The focus of psychosocial treatment and care is to increase the consistency to the illness by developing the handling ability of patient and family. Psychiatry nurses who are the important members of the team have significant responsibilities in this issue within the context of consultation liaison psychiatry (CLP). The psychosocial aspects of cancer and the role of psychiatry nurse in cancer will be discussed in this article.
