Abstract :
Objective: Its known that, elderly patients undergoing surgical intervention, as well as physical changes due to aging, the drugs before surgery, anesthesia because of the problems experienced in the capacity of sensory perception, the capacity problems experienced in the operation that is causing anxiety to fall due to the lack of attention to the possible factors . This research was carried out as a descriptive study that was in surgical clinics, determing the risks of falling and determination of measures designed to fall in elderly patients. Matherial-methods: The Research included 121 elderly patients who were over 65 years old, voluntary to this research and treated in surgical clinics between February and April 2010 in two government hospitals in Manisa City.The data to assess the risk of falls in elderly, fall risk assessment questionnaire and Hendrich II Fall Risk Diagnostic Questionnaire for collecting data. Inpatient safety measures taken for the drops to fall for the proposed measures to be evaluated by taking into account the researchers. Ege University School of Nursing approval of the Ethics Committee for Scientific Research, the research institutions which participated in the research approval and written informed consent on elderly patients were included in the study. Results: In the study elderly patients was composed of. 52.1% women, 55.4% the range of 65- 74 years, % 42.1 of patients in the general surgery department.Hendrich fall risk score was mean 3.76 + 2:44, and 38% of the elderly surveyed high risk of falling (5 points, and over) had. Age increases the risk of falling score is increasing in a statistically significant difference (p 0.05). Male patients at risk of falling (4.24 ±2.29) than women (3.33 ±2.51) were higher (p 0.05). Most of the measures taken to fall in elderly patients: bed and wheelchair lock (100%), deletion of the wet ground (87.6%), the use of stretchers and beds balustrades (87.6). No precautions were taken abaout that the risk of falling for the identification of patients with the use of colored arm cuff (ordered the creation of patient transport, patient bathrooms haven’t rails. Conclusion: The study, the risk of falling increases with increasing age and elderly patients in clinics for the fall of the measures taken were not adequate.
