Abstract :
Aim: This study was planed with the aim of investigating the surgical diseases intern nursing students’ clinical practice evaluations and academic achievement. Methods: The research is descriptive type. The study population consisted of 166 intern students who studied at Ege University School of Nursing 2008 - 2009 academic years and 155 intern students in the 2009-2010 academic years with a total of 321. The sample of the research consisted of 288 students who evaluated the surgical diseases nursing intern practices. The academic achievement status of 303 students was calculated. The intern practice is carried out in Anesthesiology Intensive Care Unit, General Surgery, Cardiovascular Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and Urology clinics. The data collection forms consisted of the views about forms related with the practice period, physical conditions, communication and the seminars. The data were analyzed using SPSS 13.0 statistical program. Number, percentage and chi-square analysis was used. Results: 94.4% of the students (n = 272) were evaluated the practice period, 94.1% (n = 271) were evaluated the transport conditions, 86.5% (n = 249) as adequate, contribution to improving communication skills, 84.7% (n = 244) forms are used in compliance, 89.2% percent (n = 257) regarded as sufficient understanding of the seminars. The students executed the point theoretical knowledge and laboratory applications overlap condition and the contribution of practice to communication skills with the 1 to 10 pointed scale. Students practice the theoretical knowledge and laboratory practices coherent with the state average of 7.64, the average contribution to the development of communication skills, is indicated as 8,02. The academic success of students in 2008-2009 academic years was 86.35, it is determined to be 86.34 in 2009-2010 education year. Conclusion: As a result of this research it is determined that the majority of the students evaluated the clinical practice as adequate and the status of success was also coherent with this situation.
