Abstract :

Objective: This cross-sectional, prospective and descriptive study was carried out to examine the problems experienced by male nurses who are work in a hospital. Methods: Sixty-five man nurses who are working in a hospital in the western of out country constituted the study population and sample. The data were collected using a questionnaire which included introductory information and problems faced in business life by man nurses. Chi-Square test was used in analyzing the data. Ethical approval of the study was obtained from the relevant committees in the participating hospital and verbal consent was obtained from the male nurses who participated the study. Findings: The most of male nurses (83.1%) said that they think switching to another profession, 49.3% of them had trouble with women patients, 21.5’% of them had trouble with male patients, 30.8% of them had trouble with the physicians, 56.9% of them had trouble with relatives of the patient. Single male nurses were experienced more problems with physicians. It was found that male nurses were thinking to choose another profession in the first year of their profession. Results: It was found that a significant proportion of male nurses have been experienced problems in carrying out their profession they think to switch to another profession. The professional socialization process for male nurses should be taken up as scientific and appropriate solutions should be created.
