Abstract
Even though it has been taken place in the world s literature since 1980 s, the concept of “Mentoring” has been recognized recently in our country and became an indispensable application for institutions; it has also importance for nursing profession. Mentoring, nowadays, is one of the most contribuiting applications to the institutions and to the individuals as a career development tool. The “mentoring” concept has a very important role in academic life as well as practice in nursing. Conducted researches suggest more efficient implementation of this concept. In this article, it was aimed to review the concept of mentoring and to discuss the advantages of its usage in nursing. In this content, definition of mentoring, implementation process, importance of mentoring in nursing were explained and research examples as mentoring interventions in nursing were given. It is considered that these explanations in this article will contribute to the nursing literature in this area and will support nurses to get knowledge on this concept and will guide mentoring interventions in nursing practice and in nursing education.
