STUDYING THE EPISTEMOLOGIC BELIEFS OF THE NURSE STUDENTS BEING EDUCATED IN TWO DISTINCT EDUCATION SYSTEMS
Abstract :
Objective: Epistomologic beliefs are generally subjective beliefs related to individuals thoughts about what the knowledge is and how knowing and learning is occurred. This research is a descriptive type of study, which was planned to investigate epistemologic beliefs of nurse students who were being educated in two distinct education systems in the Higher School of Nursing in Ege University in the 2007-2008 education year. Methods: This research was carried out on 198 nurse students who attend Higher School of Nursing in Ege University in 2007-2008 education year and accepted to participate in research. Data of the research were collected by using a Personal Information Form developed by the researchers and an Epistemologic Belief Scale (EBS) which was developed by Schommer and the validity and reliability was test by Deryakulu and Buyukozturk (2002). In this research EBS s Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient was found as r=.86. Correlation and variance analyses were used in the evaluation of the data. Results: It was established that the students participated in study 45.9 % attended classical system and 54.1 % integrated system and 57.7 % perceived their own academic successes superior. Nurse students epistemological beliefs, age groups, educational system in they are studying, they graduated from high school and fathers education levels found that the relationship between them. Conclusion: Nurse students studying in integrated system are belief that learning depends on effort, nurse students studying classical system is found to be more advanced than the belief that there is only one truth. According to these results, reviewing the processes of teaching and learning in education systems to be provided to students should be done in different learning experiences.
