POINT PREVALENCE STUDY OF PRESSURE ULCERS IN A TRAINING AND RESEARCH HOSPITAL
Abstract :
Objective: This descriptive research was designed to determine point prevelance of pressure ulcers in a training and research hospital in İzmir. Methods: Reseach sample was consisted of 470 patients who were inpatient in a training and research hospital in İzmir on 4th September 2008. The data was collected in one day by point prevalence method. The data was collected by examination of skin integrity and of all patients. Braden Scale was used for risk assessment. Data analysis was performed with SPSS for Windows 16.0 Statistical analysis was made by number, percentage Spearman’s Correlation and Mann Whitney U Test calculation. Results and Conclusion: It was seen that 54% (n=254) of the participants were male, the mean age was 55.15±18.65, the mean length of hospital stay was 7.96±12.26 days (1- 118), 87.0% (n=63) of the patients who have the risk was taken precautions, 4.3% (n=20) of the patients have totally 29 pressure ulcers, 44.83% (n=13) of pressure ulcers were second degree, 44.8% (n=13) of pressure ulcers occured on the sacrum.
