Abstract :
Objective: The research has been made to test the Turkish reliability and validity ofthe self-efficacy to regulate eatiıng habits scale in the cardiac patientsMethods:The sample population was 300 outpatients who were diagnosed cardiac(coronary artery disease, heart failure) disease at the Cardiology Clinic/Policlinics ofState Hospital during Apr– Dec 2010. Self-effıcacy to regulate eatıng habıts scale is atool developed by Albert Bandura in USA to measure regulate eating state.Participants scorecarding effectiveness based on the strength of their faith at intervalsfrom 0 to 10 units (can not do at all) to 50 (moderately can do) and 100 (highly certaincan do), to determines. Language equivalence of the scale was provided. Experts’opinions were taken about the content validity of the scale. Reliability of the scale wasdetermined with the test-retest reliability, item-total correlation and internal consistencyanalysis. Construct validity of the scale was analyzed with Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin, Barlett’sTest and factor analysis..Results: The mean age of the patients was 63.65 ± 12.11 years (range: 27- 89years) %55.7% were men, 74.3% were married, 57.7% were primary school graduates,37.3% were retired. According to the results of the study, 61.7% had Coronary arterydisease, 40.7% had diabetes, 26% had obesity, 62.3% had hypertension, 53% hadhyperlipidemia, , 53% had low high-density lipoprotein and 26.3% were smokers. Forthe scores of the self efficacy scale of patients, 65.15 ± 17.41. Scale was determinedthat the Cronbach’s Alpha 0.98, its test-retest correlation was 0.98, Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin0.92, Split-Half value 0.96 Barlett’s Test X^² =7542.97 P 0.001 and its reliability wasalso considerably high. Conclusion: Consequently, it was concluded that self-effıcacy to regulate eatınghabıts scale can be reliably and validly in cardiac patients in Turkey.
