Abstract :
Objective: This is a descriptive study to aimed investigate breathing exercises practice in preoperative and postoperative periods among patients internalized in cardiovascular services. Methods: The study was conducted in cardiovascular services of two schools of medicine hospitals between April 15- June 15 20 10. The study universe consisted of patients (n=97) internalized in these services during the study period and those who consented to participate in the study (n=BO) were included in the sample. A questionnaire form with 15 questions developed by the researchers was used to collect study data. Moreover, whether or not patients were practicing breathing exercises was monitored by the researchers. The study data were evaluated with SPSS for Windows 16,0 (Chicago, SPSS Inc) and the data analysis was carried out with numerical, percentage and chi square tests.Results: The study results illustrated that the rate of practicing breathing exercises before the operation was 17.5% while it increased to 97.5% postoperatively.Conclusion: In light of the study results it was found that the rate of teaching and practicing breathing exercises was comparatively lower in preoperative period than postoperative period.
