DETERMINATION OF EGE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF NURSING GRADUATES PROFILE
Abstract :
Objective: The aim of the study was to determine the graduates profiles of the first school of nursing of Turkey, Ege University School of Nursing (1959-2007) which was established in the year 1955. Methods: This descriptive study covered all the public and private institutions that employed the nurses who were graduated from EUSN between the years 1959 and 2007.The data was collected between 2005 and 2007 and the population of the study is consisted of 3312 nurses. No sampling was made; however, all the graduates reached were included within the scope of the research. In the study, 18.6% of the population (n=615) was reached. The data were collected by mail, e-mail and a web-site which was active for one year with the on-line form of this survey. The data were analyzed using the SPSS for Windows, version SPSS 13.0. Results: The age mean (n=615) of graduates is 34.1±8.0. Of the graduates, 25.9% hold a master degree while 11.4% hold a PhD degree. The rate of participation in scientific meetings such as congresses and symposiums for more than once is 59.0%. One fifth of the graduates (%21.8) are members of a union and %43.9 of the graduates are a member of at least one nursing association. Of the graduates, 50.7% live in their own apartment and 64.7% of them have own car. The graduates of EUSN %71.7 said that they are quite/very proud of graduating from EUSN. A decreasing job satisfaction of the graduates according to their graduation years is detected (X^2= 12.87, p 0.05). The group which has the lowest job satisfaction is the one including graduates in and after the year 2000. Conclusion: The research findings showed that the social, economic and professional characteristics of the graduates were of a higher level than those of average nurses in our country.
