DEVELOPING READER RESPONSIBILITY AND BECOMING A QUALIFIED READER IN NURSING
Abstract :
Being reader, developing responsibility and becoming a qualified reader are of vital importance for each individual in society including nursing students and nurses. The aim of this review article was to explain the concepts of reading, being a reader, reader responsibility and qualified reader; to demonstrate the importance and relation of these concepts with the nursing profession; and to illustrate the current situation of nurses and nursing students with respect to these concepts. In our country, there have been no previous research articles, review articles and postgraduate theses and providing scientific information regarding the concepts of reader, responsible reader and qualified reader. In addition, these concepts are either wholly absent or covered in a very limited fashion in the scientific meetings (especially congresses), the pregraduation and post-graduation related to nursing. This situation is one of the most basic and important obstacles for nurses and nursing students in understanding, associating and interpreting social life, along with the factors which determine and influence social life; in identifying their own position relative to these social life-related factors; in performing the nursing profession based on scientific knowledge; and in ensuring the production of knowledge in nursing.
