Aesthetic rehabilitation of a maxillary central incisor with a flapless technique, zirconia implant abutment and all-ceramic crown
Abstract :
Aesthetic rehabilitation of a maxillary central incisor can be a challenge. A proper surgical treatment modality and a systematic prosthodontic approach with the advanced dental materials are essential in achieving a predictable and a successful outcome. Recently, advances in dental materials technology have led to the introduction of zirconium-oxide abutments in conjunction with all-ceramic restorations. This case report presents how a flapless surgical technique can maintain a natural hard and soft tissue architecture, whilst a provisional and a final restoration allow for an aesthetic, precise-fitting, biocompatible and a strong definitive prosthesis for the patient with good longevity. A 57 year-old female patient with a hopeless maxillary left central incisor requested dental therapy. The central incisor was atraumatically extracted and a 4.1-mm-diameter bone level implant was placed approximately 2 mm below the cemento-enamel junction of the future cervical margin. After the healing time, a screw-retained provisional restoration was used to achieve natural and aesthetic gingival contours. Prefabricate zirconium abutment and lithiumdisilicate glass ceramic crown were used for the final rehabilitation. As a result, a flapless surgical technique along with a zirconium abutment and a full-ceramic crown combining with soft tissue contouring procedure through the use of provisional restoration may be beneficial in achieving excellent results in an aesthetically demanding area.
