Abstract :
Lipoma is a frequently encountered benign tumoral mass of adipose tissue and may originate from any localization where fat exists. Typically the finger contains little subcutaneous fat and thus lipomas originating from finger are uncommon, and expected to be small when present. A giant lipoma located within the hand is likely to impose restriction of motion and impede dexterity. Surgical excision warrants utmost caution in order to spare the critical structures such as tendons nerves and vessels, which course in a tightly packed manner within the hand. In this article, we present a patient who had a slowly growing pattern subcutaneous lipomatous mass that restricted the motion of the right hand’s 3rd finger. Excisional biopsy was performed and pathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis.Caution was exercised during surgical dissection and critical structures were preserved. Thus, there were no early or late complications through the follow up.
