Title Of Article :
The association of maternal serum calcium and 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration in each trimester of pregnancy with preeclampsia
Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to examine the association of maternal serum calcium and 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations in each trimester of pregnancy with preeclampsia. The subjects were pregnant who attending for antenatal care in Ministry of Health Ankara Training and Research Hospital. The study included 95 (45 nulliparous,50 multiparous) non-smoker patients who had no systemic disease or bad obstetric history and had singleton alive pregnancies between 6 and 12 weeks of gestation. Maternal serum calcium and 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations, body weights, resting arterial blood tension in each trimester and 24 hour urine protein in last two trimesters were measured. The analysis of data was done in SPSS for Windows 11.5 programme p 0.05 was accepted statistically significant. ninety-one of ninety-five pregnancies continued and terminated without any complications. Four patients developed preeclampsia. We found statistically significant difference in maternal serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration in last trimester between pregnancies complicated with preeclampsia and normal pregnancies (p 0, 002). But, there weren’t statistically significant difference between maternal serum calcium and 25 hydroxyvitamin D concentrations in first and second trimester and preeclampsia development. In our study, statistically significant difference was found between last trimester maternal serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations and preeclampsia development. The concentrations of maternal calcium and 25-hydroxyvitamin D in first and second trimesters of pregnancy were not associated with preeclampsia, but it appears that more wide serial studies are needed.
