Systemic sclerosis: Why and how?
Abstract :
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is an autoimmune disease which has still unknown etiology, involving many organs and systems, such as skin, lung, heart, kidney and gastrointestinal system. In SSc pathogenesis, inflammation, microvascular structural, several changes in immune system and excessive extracellular matrix production are responsible. Skin and internal organ fibrosis due to these complex interactions in immune system form the clinical representation of the illness. The reason behind these significant clinical differences in SSc patients has not known yet. SSc treatment is difficult than other rheumatic diseases and should be individual due to diversity of clinical findings. However, in this review, the etiology of SSc in the light of current literature is discussed.
