Abstract :
The most important component of competitiveness, without doubt, is to be able to develop new technologies. Today, the way to develop new technology is to generate information at studies in universities and firms subsequently transform this information into technology by collaborating with companies. To build such an efficient cooperation, certain interfaces must be developed in the public scale and necessary legal incentives should be provided. Thus, the state must be a facilitator and must play an encouraging role in the university - industry collaboration. Technology development can be in hospitality/service sector as well as in the manufacturing sector. Thus the word ‘industry’ should be perceived as companies producing goods or services. In this study, university - industry collaboration is examined within the framework of competitiveness and the subsequent role of the state and the relative interfaces are discussed. Technopark Istanbul, which is expected to be one of the most successful examples of such endeavors in our country, is examined as a case study of a successful university - industry - government collaboration and the necessary elements for such successful interfaces, mainly technoparks, are determined.
