Abstract
It is seen that the terminology used within the Turkısh musical sytem, which has an important place in the defence and improvement of the National Culture, has turned out to be problematic, with many negative results. The study with its focus on the problem has unearthed that the common terms are not used within the scope of national music since the Turkish music is devided into two as TTFM ( Traditional Turkish Folk Music ) and TTAM ( Traditional Turkish Art Music ). The TTFM faced the problem of terminology in search for polyphony, especially, with the Republican Era. When the terms used within the terminology of Tradiyional Turkish Folk Music and Traditional Turkish Art Music are compared, İt is understood that the possibility of the use of common terminology arises even with the dimensional definition of the terms.
