Title Of Article :
TWO PRIME EXAMPLES OF TRADITIONAL HAND PRINTED CLOTH PRODUCTION FROM MARDIN AND İZMİR
Abstract :
Traditional handicrafts have a long and rich heritage in Turkey. Tourism too is a form of industry that has been steadily growing over the years. The number of tourists visiting our country each year is also on the increase. With respect to tourism, any possible future handicrafts production in unprivileged areas, especially on a cottage industry basis has to be taken seriously, since this kind of production would provide many unemployed family members with an income that wouldn’t even be thinkable before. ‘Home - Workshop’ system of production is a tested and proven type of a production, ideally suited for underdeveloped areas with high level of unemployment. Now, we would like to introduce the two masters of cloth printing craft, who without any social security coverage or financial support, have been carrying on with their precious craft for many years at their home workshops in an age of commercial mass produced cloth production.
