    OTTO DIX AND THE “DER KRIEG” SERIAL

  • Abstract
    The biggest event at the beginning of the XX th century was the First World War. The German artists perceived the war as an extraordinary event that would renew the weakening culture and cure the society spiritually. Even they were figuring the war as an environment which carried the role of a school for talented artists. Otto Dix had become one of the artists who saw battle fields as art workshops with his expressionist identity in which he had the belief that brought his feelings and inner world to the front. In this article, it is given place to German contemporary artist Otto Dix and his six gravure works of fifty pieces famous serial “Der Krieg”. Six prints selected from the Der Krieg gravure serial of Dix who had been impressed his art lifelong by different art movements, events and actions was compared with the war-themed studies of Kathe Kollwitz’s Volunteers and Francisco de Goya’s Los Disasters de la Guerra and observed in him. In this respect, it was tough to irradiate the current artists and the ones training in this province.
