Abstract
This article aims to scrutinize both the identities we possess in everyday life and society’s approach to these identities through the context of English playwright Hugh Whitemore’s stage play “Breaking The Code” which based on a true life story of famous mathematician Alan Mathison Turing. We witness the system’s creation of its own monsters in the course of events of the stage play in which we witness the hypocrisy of society that approves breaking its rules under different circumstances; consequently cause hypocrisy among its members by clinging to some rules. The play states that how the main elements, like our social and sexual identities which shaped our individual existence by social structure, try to destroy each other with society’s controversial rules and rights; and points eventually the only thing will be destroyed is the individual and in the end the society itself.
