Abstract :
Especially Exhibition has been used as displaying objects since the beggining. Accordingly, exhibition design is a process today that is merged displaying objects with visual communication design. With the developing of the exhibiton concept, interdicipline works have improved and space itself has been included in design in order to establish multi-layered communication. Now, not only the objects have been displayed but also exhibition itself has turned into art. This tranformation questioning whether art or design. Today exhibition design is new branch of graphic design. Exhibition design that we can come across with it as a different form and shape has found a new way since establishing SEGD in 1970s.Exhibition designs can act in many branches and places. It could be classified as temporary and permanent, or according to their functions and context such as commercial, social, cultural, fair and education. The article Developing Exhibition Design and Comparing Museum and Art Gallery has examined the continuity and change in exhibition design within the context of museums and art galleries. This article includes the concept of exhibition design and the chronological history of it. Also given spesific examples such as Curiosity room, Saloon Exhibition, World Expo which were seed light of the development of exhibition design. Respectively, the examples of exhibition design in museums and art galleries are given as well. In the epilogue, the common and different ways in these two spaces are identified.
