Abstract :
Just before two destructive wars brought massive destruction in Europe, at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, especially German dominated territories presented monumental works in philosophical, literal, and artistic areas. Within these works, it is also possible to interact with intellectual background of this period’s political, social, philosophical foundations. Nietzsche’s literal work ‘Thus Spoke Zarathustra’ and concepts of ‘Übermensch’ and ‘Ewige Wiederkunft’ could be regarded as examples of these foundations. Music, which intersects in many common points with philosophy just as other social sciences, also benefits from this idea by Richard Strauss’ same named tone poem. In this work, it will be aimed to shed light on how Richard Strauss, the brilliant representative of the Germanic soul and music tradition, interprets his philosophical work Thus Spoke Zarathustra, a summary of Nietzsche s thoughts, through the same name tone poem.
